holiday quote

I have to move out of Ariel’s flat today. I hate seriously dislike moving. Anyways, I was going through my papers and found this quote that I got from a labyrinth gathering a earlier this year:

yes. Think on that for a while! I’m off to Jozi tonight to hang out with my fandamily. Looking forward to it - I haven’t really spent time with them since I returned from Atlanta. It will be a pity to leave the beautiful beaches of CT though.

Hott in Denmark

Here’s the story:
When I arrived in CT I needed some cash. So, one seemingly simple way was to take advantage of the advertising and movie industry here. Armed with oodles of optimism I duly went searching for casting agencies and sent a copy of my voice to a voice-over artist company. The voice-over idea didn’t work (not enough variation) , but the casting peeps liked the look of me and asked me back to shoot a portfolio. That was about four months ago. Since then I’ve been an extra once for a Tiger Beer ad. Thankfully I found a real job (link) so I didn’t starve, but my hopes for fashion stardom were waning.

So why I’m blogging all this then? Well, on Saturday I was requested for a casting for a Danish company Intersport who are in town shooting their catalogue. Saturday morning, armed with a lot less optimism, I popped in to the studio, they took some pics, I spoke about Frisbee and then left.

And…on monday they called me back ! Hooray! I’ve just finished a two day shoot on Clifton beach, at the yacht club and a sports stadium sporting big name brands. Hanging out with four Danes, taking funny pictures, being in the sun and sushi for lunch all make for a great two days of ‘work’. And this is not to mention the handy pocket money that will go some way to buying a scooter. I’m still laughing at the thought that I will help pretty Scandinavian blondes in choosing their wardrobe for the summer! So, if you find yourself in Copenhagen needing a fashion make over, be sure to go to Intersport and grab a catalogue. I’ll even sign it if you want ;)

oh no, oh no! I don’t know whether to cry, gasp, laugh or just stand here in disbelief. this is like something out of those sick horror comedy movies, but only in real life. I guess the positive is that Angola is ready for any terrorism activity, but still… is this story real?!? what a crazy colourful world we live in.

Oh no! Bad news bear.

No, I’m not talking about this bad news bear, but rather the bad news that Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers. I’m a huge fan of the Discworld series (trying to collect them all), and am actually currently reading Good Omens which he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman. Pratchett’s humour, satire and insights into the peculiarities of human nature always keep me entertained. This is terrible news, and I’m sure all the Discworld fans will be sad.

With his usual humour, Pratchett has said
“PS ... This should be interpreted as 'I am not dead'. I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else.”

If you haven’t come across the series (shame on you!) you really should try find one at a bookstore and get hooked. The series starts with The Light Fantastic, and The Colour of Magic, but you can jump in anywhere in the 30+ books. For those of you with theological inclinations, Small Gods is fantastic and spot on in some senses. Unfortunately you won’t find many books at second hand stores as fans don’t seem to let the books go, so it will have to be a full price investment!

leading thoughts

I’ve just found out that while blogging for me means sticking up photos of Frisbees and trying to be subversive, my housemate and friend Ariel got the idea in his head that he wanted to be a Thought Leader blogger. Thought Leader is the Mail&Gaurdian's blog and a recent addition to the SA blogosphere. Ariel emailed the folks there, sent a copy of his writing and now he has his own blurb and even his first post "Colouring outside the lines". Woohoo! Way to go buddy.

Inspired by his move, I think that Aiden (of the Narrative Pulse fame) should also sign up to be a contributor- many of his blog posts are very well researched and ‘leading thoughts’ in the area of narrative theory here in SA.

For international thought leaders and ideas worth spreading, be sure to subscribe to TED talks. They have the big guns of the world talking on interesting topics all the time.

Crap! Quick, Pomo-adam labeled me a "subversive blogger" yesterday. Better think of something subversive quick to put up to look the part ;) Maybe next week rather - this weekend i'm going to enjoy the summer weather and sleeping in after last weeks manic-ness. Thanks though buddy - i'm voting for you! Oh, and you got me right thinking i'm dissatisfied with the status quo. Most definitely.
