true love?

News just in:

CAPE TOWN Tue, 14 Nov 2006
Same-sex marriage bill approved

Parliament on Tuesday approved the controversial Civil Unions Bill, which provides for same-sex marriage, the first African country to do so and one of only a few in the world.
I'm sure there are many raised voices, in both joy and anger in SA. Whatever your personal view on the issue, I think we should be proud that we have one of the most liberal constitutions in the world, to make sure we never go back to what we had when no-one was free. It is nice to know now that even the courts follow our constitution. There are other constitutional rights (like food, water, employment) that we should make a noise about too!

As to this noise, a fellow student said they want to live in South Africa now. African Christian Democratic Party leader Kenneth Meshoe, however, said that with this bill Parliament would "cross the line" of God's patience with South Africa.

Does God's patience have an end? Why do we suppose to know which side God is or isn't on? I really enjoy this quote from a pastor's door:

God is not disillusioned with us,
God never had any illusions in the first place.

Good news indeed!

YAY! Nat and I are taking out all my gay friends for Bloody Mary's and cigars at the Mount Nelson!

So this is a good thing? Heck no, I don't agree. What's this country coming to. Viva Kenneth Meshoe viva! What's next - we'll be passing weed around in church instead of the collections basket...? Get real guys. God loves us but are we so ignorant as to believe that He should not be feared at all anymore? Anyways, that's my opinion.

Peace. The LU

Must agree with Ludogg. I don't think it's a good thing. I feel like Christians are trying so hard to be seen as cool and inclusive that we lose sight of the fact that God has put some things off limits. There are some things that He does not condone. And while that doesn't mean we should treat gay people differently, it does mean that we can't cheer for something that we believe is against God's Word. Someone said to me the other day that the biggest problem within Christianity nowadays is that we don't take God seriously.

Lu...what do you know anyways! ;-)

The sad thing about people publishing their dribble is that impressionable minds love to agree with lofty politically correct ideas. Don't put God's words into your aggenda machine and spit them out the way you want them to come out. You are not God. So since he has a voice let it be heard.
Colosians 2:8 "Be careful not to let anyone rob you [of this faith] through a shallow and misleading philosophy. Such a person follows human traditions and the world's way of doing things rather than following Christ."

Romans1
25 These people have exchanged God's truth for a lie. So they have become ungodly and serve what is created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen! 26 For this reason God allowed their shameful passions to control them. Their women have exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 Likewise, their men have given up natural sexual relations with women and burn with lust for each other. Men commit indecent acts with men, so they experience among themselves the punishment they deserve for their perversion. 28 And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things.

Consider what you teach. We should love and include homosexual people in the church but none of us should encourage anyone to sin, be they homosexual or heterosexual.

Hey Craig, thanks for saying your name. I'm not sure i want to make this a debate platform, though i'm sure the debate over the bill is rife in SA anyway. The theological debate probably been going on for way longer (by very respected theologians), and there's no way we can all substantiate our views on a blog. But we can express them, so thanks for doing that!
Thanks Gwen and Lu too - sometimes i think you are right, that we have become too comfortable with God. But other times (like after watching Last King of Scotland) i realise that there are way more important systemic and institutionalised sins to address than which gender people choose to love.
Hmmm, that said, it actually may be an important issue to address because it so complex and touches the view and interpretation of Scripture, psychology, genetic studies, sexuality, sociology, prejudices, morals... a lot!
Hopefully we keep the critical conversation going.
(but here?) ;)

Hey G

First off i think that they should pass a bill in the consti to put spell checkers that work into bloggs so I dont look like a dumbass.

anyway i have to agree with you totally on this one. I think that jesus gave us the choices. her or other ways, peace or war, love or hate homosexuality or not. who am i to not offer the same choices to people. Do i make the rules on who can have the right to chose?? If that is so the world would be pretty much like iraq at the moment.

anyway but i am sad that this has become a huge issue. in leviticus it says god pretty much doesnt like homsexuality but it also says we should stone people who use Gods name in vain. So here in this bill we should not execept homosexuals which is a "christian" viewpoint but then why as "christians" should go out and stone people for using Gods name in vain. trust me i would be the first one to be stoned maybe this was what jesus was saying when he said he is without sin cast the first stone. lets see parlament pass a bill that says no sex before marriage and lets see how many "christians" stick to that.do we take whats we want out of the bible to make our own agendas.

faith for me choses to except peoples differences and embrace them. The first people to see jesus followed stars (No thats a christian no no). what is faith if it doesnt look for itself in others. Embracing is after all what god does. infact jesus doesnt say love one another so that you may change them. it just says love as i have love you. the problem with the world is that there is to much judging and not enough loving. fancy this whole thing boils around who people can and cannot love. maybe if we as a community had loved better this would not be an issue.

my last thing is i think god gives rocks about this rather he is more concerned that people are dying of Aids (another love disease) and the world is just sitting back and fighting whether people of the same sex should love each other. Come on guys lets get real. What are we fighting for?? its not etheics cause then we would fight poverty as well its not jesus cause jesus embraces.

i think we are fighting to be right cause we to scared that we could be wrong. Jesus I bet said sorry. he had to he was human which meant he had to be wrong at some point. Just so we know being wrong is not a sin.
