Friday was the deadline for the thesis proposals to be in. I was almost swayed by Barry at the last minute to change the theologians - with good arguments - but chose to stick with my original focus. Here then is my Thesis title and statement:

Toward a new South African ecclesiology:
conversations with Moltmann and Berger.

In the changing and increasingly secular South African society, historically white mainline churches need to ask the question “how can we ‘be’ church in the new South Africa?” Within the wider mainline theological tradition, Jurgen Moltmann’s challenging rethinking of ecclesiology and Peter Berger’s secularisation thesis provide interesting conversation partners for sketching this new contextual ecclesiology.
